Good News: Texas football Land Another Top-Notch Fans Favorite

On August 24, Texas football secured its most significant commitment of the 2025 recruiting class with the addition of five-star safety Jonah Williams.

Williams’ decision came just a day after four-star offensive tackle Nick Brooks committed to Texas.

A standout safety and linebacker from Ball High School in Galveston, Williams chose the Longhorns over other top programs such as Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, and USC, making him the 18th commitment for head coach Steve Sarkisian in the 2025 class. Brooks, on the other hand, picked Texas over schools like Georgia, USC, Iowa, and Alabama.

These commitments followed a relatively quiet week in Texas recruiting. Notably, five-star offensive tackle prospect Michael Fasusi included Texas in his final four choices but ultimately committed to rival Oklahoma on August 21. Additionally, defensive back Kade Phillips switched his commitment to LSU, leaving Williams as the only safety prospect currently committed to the Longhorns.

Ranked as the No. 10 overall recruit in the class of 2025 by On3, Williams is also the top player in his position and third overall in Texas. A versatile athlete, Williams shined on both offense and defense during his junior season. He caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns, rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and recorded 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions on defense. He also returned three interceptions for touchdowns and scored on two punt returns and two kick returns.

Brooks, who ranks No. 208 nationally according to On3, is considered the No. 17 offensive tackle and the No. 30 player in Georgia.

Brooks chose Texas for the opportunity to compete for early playing time.

“The chance to play and compete for early playing time was the No. 1 factor for me,” Brooks told On3. “NIL opportunities are important too, and that would be second on my list. Then it comes down to relationships, family, and how I feel about the school. Family is very important to me, so whichever school makes me and my family feel the best will be a major factor.”

Two more five-star prospects could potentially commit to Texas by the end of August. Wide receiver Jaime Ffrench is set to decide between Texas, Tennessee, LSU, and Miami on August 30, while wide receiver Michael Terry III will choose between the Longhorns, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Oregon before his senior season begins.
