The Golden State Warriors are looking to add more shooting to their frontcourt and have expressed interest in free agent Davis Bertans, as confirmed by his agent Arturs Kalnitis on his Instagram Story.
Kalnitis shared the following about Bertans:
“Davis Bertans will prepare for the upcoming season together with the (Golden State Warriors), good luck in the Bay Area, DB.”
Kalnitis did not elaborate on the Warriors’ specific plans for Bertans. They could potentially offer him a veteran’s minimum contract or a training camp deal. If signed, Bertans would join a group of new additions to the Warriors’ rotation, which already includes Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson. If everything goes well, Bertans could be a valuable asset for the team.
Bertans previously signed a five-year, $80 million contract in 2020, but because the final year was only partially guaranteed for $5.2 million, the Charlotte Hornets opted to waive him.
Davis Bertans Gives Golden State More Floor Spacing
Since entering the NBA, Davis Bertans has built a reputation as a big man who can effectively space the floor. His best season came in 2019-20 with the Washington Wizards, where he averaged 15.4 points per game while shooting 42.4% from three-point range. Notably, Bertans took 8.7 three-point attempts per game, which contributed to the Wizards offering him a significant contract extension the following offseason.
However, Bertans hasn’t replicated those numbers in the seasons since. That said, he began to show glimpses of his former self during his half-season with the Charlotte Hornets. In 28 games, Bertans averaged 8.8 points per game, shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc on 6.3 attempts per game.
The Warriors likely won’t rely on Bertans as heavily as the Wizards once did, but his three-point shooting could be a valuable asset for them. The Warriors have a history of benefiting from big men who can stretch the floor, such as Marreese Speights and Otto Porter Jr., both of whom played key roles in their championship runs.
While the Warriors’ championship aspirations won’t solely depend on Bertans, his ability to space the floor could be a helpful piece in their quest to return to the playoffs.

This means that Bertans has not yet signed a contract or been confirmed for training camp. However, he may still receive a training camp invitation. Bertans had a promising performance with the Hornets and deserves a fair opportunity with the Warriors.

Following Kulnitis’ post indicating that Bertans would return to Golden State, NBA Insider Marc Stein used his X account to provide all the information regarding Bertans’ current status with the Warriors.
As Golden State considers inviting the Latvian shooter to a training camp, Dāvis Bertāns has been invited to try out for the team, according to Stein.
This means that Bertans has not yet signed a contract or been confirmed for training camp. However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of him receiving a training camp invitation. Given his encouraging performance with the Hornets, Bertans deserves a fair opportunity with the Warriors.
