HUGE BLOW: Another Highly Rated Talented Reds Star Suffer Terrible Injury Causing Setback

The Cincinnati Reds made several roster changes this morning ahead of their game against the New York Mets. Left-handed reliever Sam Moll has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left shoulder impingement. In his place, the team has called up right-handed reliever Casey Legumina from Triple-A.

Moll has been solid for the Reds this season, but he struggled in last night’s game. Entering in the 6th inning of a scoreless contest, Moll gave up a leadoff home run. He then allowed two more runners to reach base, one on a hit by pitch and the other via a walk, both of whom later scored after he was pulled from the game. Now on the injured list, Moll will have at least 15 days to recover.

Casey Legumina returns to the Reds after spending much of the season in Triple-A. While his major league outings haven’t been smooth—allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs over 6.0 innings (10.50 ERA) in three appearances—he’s fared better in Triple-A, where he has a 3.14 ERA over 57.1 innings with 56 strikeouts.

This marks the fifth time this season that the Reds have recalled Legumina, which is significant under the new rules from the latest collective bargaining agreement. Players can only be optioned to the minors five times in a season before they must be designated for assignment and placed on waivers. If the Reds attempt to send Legumina down again, they’ll have to place him on waivers.
