SAD NEWS: Auburn Lose Another Highly Experience Defensive Tackle To Big Rivals

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens released Angelo Blackson as they trimmed their preseason roster to meet the regular-season limit. However, the former Auburn defensive tackle still went on to appear in 11 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.

On August 26, the Denver Broncos also released Blackson while making their preseason cuts. Yet, similar to last year, being cut might not prevent Blackson from seeing NFL action in 2024.

On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals signed Blackson to their practice squad. Practice-squad players can be eligible to play if elevated to the active roster the day before a game. Teams are allowed to elevate two practice-squad players for each game.

This marks Angelo Blackson’s second stint with the Arizona Cardinals. In 2020, Blackson played in 16 games for Arizona, starting nine of them, and tied his career high with 2.5 sacks.

The Cardinals dropped their 2024 season opener against the Buffalo Bills, 34-28. They’ll open their home season this Sunday in an NFC West matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at 3:05 p.m. CDT at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Blackson, a fourth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, has played for five NFL teams. After two seasons with the Titans, he was on the New England Patriots’ practice squad before the Houston Texans signed him for the last nine games of the 2017 season. He played every game in 2018, starting 15 regular-season and two playoff games in 2019. However, Houston released him after the 2020 preseason.

Five days before the 2020 season began, Blackson signed with the Cardinals and played in all 16 games. In 2021, he joined the Chicago Bears on a two-year, $5.5 million deal, appearing in 32 games over two seasons. After signing with the Ravens in 2023 and being released, Blackson played 11 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In April 2024, Blackson signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos but was released in August. Now, he returns to Arizona on their practice squad.

Over 128 regular-season games with 42 starts, Blackson has accumulated 179 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 27 quarterback hits, an interception, eight pass breakups, a forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries. He’s also played in three postseason games.
