Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs knows what it’s like to face adversity. In 2022, while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacobs had an outstanding season, leading the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards and amassing 2,053 total yards from scrimmage. His performance earned him Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top running backs.
However, the following season didn’t go as smoothly. Jacobs dealt with a quad injury that sidelined him for the last four games of 2023. Having experienced the physical toll of the game, Jacobs is now in a prime position to mentor Green Bay rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd, who recently landed on injured reserve due to an ankle injury sustained in the Packers’ 16-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Lloyd has already dealt with several injuries, including a hip issue during training camp and a hamstring strain in the preseason. Despite these setbacks, Lloyd has found a mental and emotional boost in Jacobs’ support.
“He’s been through it,” Lloyd said of Jacobs, as reported by Dominique Yates of Packers News. “Whenever I feel frustrated and say, ‘Can’t catch a break,’ Josh always reminds me that these things happen.”
With Lloyd sidelined for a minimum of four games, the Packers are counting on Jacobs, who is performing at an elite level again, and second-year backup Emanuel Wilson to carry the load. The hope is that Lloyd takes the necessary time to fully recover and returns strong for the latter part of the season.
