LSU star linebacker Harold Perkins is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL, as confirmed by a source to The Advocate.
Perkins sustained the injury in the second half of LSU’s 34-17 victory over UCLA while attempting to make a tackle. He was assisted by athletic trainers to an injury tent and later walked slowly to the locker room.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly stated that Perkins underwent tests Saturday night and Sunday, which confirmed the torn ACL, with CBS Sports being the first to report the news.
Perkins, known for his athleticism, had recorded 17 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in four games. A former five-star recruit, he was a preseason All-American and wore the No. 7 jersey, designated for LSU’s top playmaker.
Initially starting as a weakside linebacker, Perkins was moved to strongside linebacker before LSU’s win over South Carolina, allowing the team to utilize three linebackers simultaneously.
Kelly mentioned that while LSU can adjust its defense in Perkins’s absence, it will require some adaptation. “We can still stay in our buffalo package and revert to our dime package by drop
ping Major Burns down. We have plenty of options,” he said. “We hope he’s OK and can return, but we’ll find ways to adjust.”
LSU has now lost three significant players to season-ending injuries, including senior running back John Emery, who suffered a torn ACL in practice, and senior defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory, who tore his Achilles during the victory over Nicholls on September 7.
