BREAKING: Steelers Lands Another Top-Notch Fans Favorite Bolstering Squad Depth

Early in the season, few would have predicted the Pittsburgh Steelers to start with a three-game winning streak. This success wouldn’t have been possible without the free-agent signing of DeShon Elliott.

Elliott has quickly become one of the most praised acquisitions of the 2024 NFL season. His performance at safety has strengthened the Steelers’ defense, which was already a strong unit. Since joining from the Miami Dolphins, Elliott has made an immediate impact with 13 tackles, an interception, and has allowed only an eight-yard reception on six targets. His presence has given star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick more freedom to take risks on the field.

Financially, Elliott’s signing has also been a steal for the Steelers. He joined on a two-year deal worth $6 million, with only $1.5 million guaranteed, making him an exceptional value for the team.

NFL Analysis Names DeShon Elliott as Pittsburgh Steelers’ Big Steal in Free Agency

Similar to the praise given to Philadelphia Eagles’ Zack Baun and Los Angeles Chargers’ Kristian Fulton, Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon commended the Steelers for securing DeShon Elliott in free agency. Kenyon highlighted Elliott’s impact in his Week 3 NFL analysis.

Previously with the Miami Dolphins, Elliott brought significant experience, including three seasons with over 80 tackles. The Steelers have utilized his versatility effectively, as he has already made 13 tackles, snagged an interception, and allowed just a single eight-yard reception on six targets.

“He’s done a really nice job,” noted head coach Mike Tomlin regarding Elliott, who signed a two-year, $6 million deal. “He’s made key plays—interceptions, tackles for loss on critical downs—those big moments that shape games.”

Kenyon emphasized that Elliott is the perfect complement to Minkah Fitzpatrick, giving the latter more freedom to make plays on the field. Pro Football Focus has also recognized Elliott’s strong performance, ranking him among the top five safeties in the league for his contributions in run defense, pass coverage, and tackling. Opposing quarterbacks have a 0.0 passer rating when targeting him, thanks to his precise positioning and playmaking ability.

As the Steelers move forward, Elliott’s integration into the defense has become a game-changer, further solidifying the team’s status as a top contender. His early success reflects the Steelers’ ability to make smart personnel decisions.
