GOOD NEWS: Saints Confirms Return Of Another Highly Experience Star

The New Orleans Saints are preparing for their second divisional matchup of the 2024 regular season, where they will take on their rivals, the Atlanta Falcons. Both teams are coming off narrow losses to strong opponents in Week 3.

In some promising news for the Saints, a key defensive player is expected to return to the field for their upcoming game against the Falcons, providing a boost to the black and gold defense.

Saints’ Khalen Saunders teases return on social media

Khalen Saunders, a key defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints, recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying he’s “back from the dead.” Interestingly, he included the phrase “Rise up,” which is famously known as the mantra for the Atlanta Falcons, the Saints’ upcoming opponent. This playful post has sparked some attention as the Saints gear up for their divisional showdown against the Falcons. Saunders’ return could provide a significant boost to New Orleans’ defense ahead of this rivalry game.

Saints veteran seemingly reveals that he will return from injury for Week 4 game vs. Falcons

Khalen Saunders is expected to make his return this Sunday after missing the start of the season due to a calf injury. Initially projected to miss 2-3 regular season games, his Week 4 comeback aligns with that timeline. Saunders, who started all 17 games for the Saints in 2023, was a key contributor with 57 total tackles and one tackle for loss, primarily excelling in run defense—a critical area where New Orleans could use some reinforcements right now.

Notably, Saunders also played fullback in goal-line situations last year, and it’s possible that Klint Kubiak might use him in a similar capacity this season. Known for introducing creative offensive looks, Kubiak could bring Saunders in for those power formations.

Last season, Saunders played 47% of the Saints’ defensive snaps, and with his return, we could see rookie Bryan Bresee’s snap count slightly reduced. However, Bresee has been a standout so far, especially in pass-rushing situations, and only Carl Granderson has been more effective in that role for the Saints. While Saunders may take on early-down work, Bresee’s growth in pass-rushing will likely keep him on the field for key passing downs.

Overall, Saunders’ return bolsters the Saints’ defensive line depth, giving them more flexibility and strength as they face the Falcons.
