Due to an injury, another prominent Cardinal is also doubtful for Saturday’s game against Notre Dame.
Louisville wide receiver Jadon Thompson will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a knee injury late in the Cardinals’ 31-19 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Head coach Jeff Brohm shared the news during his weekly press conference on Monday.
Thompson, a senior, had stepped into a starting role following a broken collarbone injury to South Alabama transfer Caullin Lacy in mid-August. He made an immediate impact, catching two touchdowns in Louisville’s season-opening win against Austin Peay. Before his injury, Thompson had recorded six receptions for 88 yards this season.
Adding to Louisville’s injury woes, Brohm also revealed that star cornerback Quincy Riley may be sidelined for Saturday’s matchup against Notre Dame due to an ankle injury.
“He’s 50-50 at best,” Brohm told ESPN, noting the injury was a high ankle sprain. “I’m hopeful, but I’m not optimistic.”
Thompson’s absence makes Lacy’s return even more crucial for Louisville’s offense. When asked about the possibility of Lacy playing this weekend in South Bend, Brohm remained uncertain.
“It’ll be close,” Brohm said. “I’d anticipate the SMU game [on Oct. 5], but for this game, it will depend on whether he feels ready to go. I’m not saying he’ll be 100 percent. It’s his call, and it’s 50-50 at best.”
Several players will need to step up for the Cardinals to compete on Saturday, with key contributions needed from the likes of Tyler Shough, Chris Bell, Ja’Corey Brooks, and the rest of Louisville’s secondary.
