BREAKING: Georgia’s Mykel Williams huge ‘game-time decision’ injury update

The biggest game of the opening month of the 2024 college football season will take place at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday, as the Georgia Bulldogs head 275 miles west to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. This clash between SEC powerhouses will be the first of what could be many top-five matchups this season.

However, Georgia might be without one of their key defensive players, Mykel Williams. The standout defensive lineman, who is projected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is still recovering from an ankle injury. His availability for the Alabama game will likely remain uncertain until just before kickoff.

College football insider Pete Thamel reported, “Georgia star defensive lineman Mykel Williams is a gametime decision for the No. 2 Bulldogs at No. 4 Alabama today. It’s considered a ‘true gametime decision’ with his injured ankle. He’s Mel Kiper Jr.’s No. 4 overall NFL Draft prospect.”

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Mykel Williams (13) goes off the field with an injury against the Clemson Tigers in the third quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Williams sustained a Grade 2 ankle sprain in the third quarter of Georgia’s season-opener against Clemson and was seen in a walking boot as he left the stadium.

Earlier this week, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart offered a hopeful update on Williams’ recovery, suggesting that he might return to action after missing the last two games. “Mykel’s been able to do a little bit. I still don’t know his timeline,” Smart said Wednesday, according to Brooks Austin of SI.com. “He was able to get out there and run around and get some reps today.”
