For football coach Brent Pry, things are still looking bright in terms of recruiting in the Class of 2025.
One area where Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has found significant success is in recruiting, particularly with the Class of 2025. Alongside Fontel Mines, the Hokies have secured multiple in-state commitments, addressing a gap left by the previous coaching staff.
Virginia Tech currently has 16 commitments in the Class of 2025, with many coming from within the state. Although the Hokies initially had four four-star recruits, they lost one when Matthew Outten flipped his commitment to Penn State on September 2. Despite this setback, Virginia Tech’s class still ranks in the Top 50 according to ESPN.

You might be thinking, “Top 50, okay, no big deal,” but this marks a positive step for a Virginia Tech program that has faced challenges, with Coach Brent Pry working to bring it back to national relevance. A promising sign is that two of the three remaining four-star recruits, athlete Micah Matthews and linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh, are Virginia natives, reinforcing the in-state recruiting focus.
Losing Matthew Outten to Penn State was a tough blow, and the hope is that no more commitments will flip before the signing period. However, maintaining a Top 50 class is crucial for the program’s future. Several other ACC schools are ranked higher, with Miami leading at No. 11, followed by Georgia Tech (No. 17), Clemson (No. 19), SMU (No. 27), Florida State (No. 29), Stanford (No. 36), Duke (No. 39), Syracuse (No. 40), Pittsburgh (No. 42), NC State (No. 45), and North Carolina (No. 46). Close behind the Hokies, Virginia ranks No. 49, and next season’s opener, South Carolina, is ranked No. 35.
While the Hokies are currently at No. 47, it’s crucial they stay in the Top 50 to remain competitive with ACC rivals who continue to excel in recruiting.
