On Tuesday morning, news broke that Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery and assault on an unborn child. Although Young has posted bail, his legal troubles persist, and head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia football program have opted to suspend him indefinitely.
This decision doesn’t come as a surprise; it was realistically the only option Smart had. While Smart offered few comments on the situation Tuesday night, the suspension seemed inevitable.
Now, the pressing question is how Young’s absence will affect Georgia’s offense going forward.
Young has been a reliable target for the team this season, though not a standout performer. In the first two games, he only had a total of three receptions but managed to score a touchdown in each game. While those remain his only touchdowns of the season, his role in the offense has been consistent.

In the past two games against Alabama and Auburn, Young had three catches in each and surpassed 50 receiving yards. Although he hasn’t found the end zone recently, he’s proven to be a dependable option for quarterback Carson Beck.
Losing Young is significant, but it’s not catastrophic. He’s currently the fourth-leading receiver for Georgia and one of six players to score a receiving touchdown this season. While his absence presents a challenge, it’s not one that will derail Georgia’s championship hopes. Others will need to step up, but there’s confidence they’ll be able to do so.
