The Georgia Bulldogs are focused on their upcoming game against the Texas Longhorns in Week 8, but they’re also looking ahead to the future. Head coach Kirby Smart is aiming to strengthen the defense by pursuing two top 2025 recruits. Georgia could be close to securing another five-star talent, as five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin visited Athens for their 41-31 win over Mississippi State. Griffin seems to be nearing a decision, with reports suggesting he will announce his commitment on October 18. Ranked as the top defensive lineman and No. 6 overall player in the 2025 class, Georgia is favored to land Griffin with a 95.5% chance according to On3.com’s Steve Wiltfong.
“Following his official visit to Georgia, Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin set his commitment date for October 18,” Steve Wiltfong wrote on October 13. “The Bulldogs have long been seen as the frontrunner for Griffin, who celebrated his birthday in Athens. Miami and USC are also in his final three, but factors like proximity, player development, and a strong relationship with the coaching staff give Georgia the edge, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
” Griffin’s NIL value is estimated at $358,000. Georgia also leads the race to sign fellow five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry and hopes to secure a win over Texas before Griffin’s announcement.
