Following their bye week, the Virginia Tech football team faces a shortened preparation period for their Thursday night matchup against Boston College at Lane Stadium. With the game scheduled earlier in the week, head coach Brent Pry addressed the media on Monday afternoon. Here are some key takeaways as they gear up to face the 4-2 Eagles.
Offensive line getting healthier?
It’s well known that Virginia Tech’s offensive line has faced challenges this season, both in pass protection and run blocking. Injuries have contributed to these struggles, but head coach Brent Pry offered an encouraging update on Layth Ghannam.
Pry shared that Ghannam has been practicing during the bye week and is making progress toward returning to the lineup. His return would be a significant boost at guard for the Hokies.
Jeremiah Coney moving up the depth chart
Bhayshul Tuten and Malachi Thomas have been the primary running backs for Virginia Tech, forming a solid 1-2 punch. However, P.J. Prioleau was also showing promise before he got injured during the Hokies’ 31-7 win over Stanford on October 5. With Prioleau sidelined, Jeremiah Coney is now climbing up the depth chart.
Head coach Brent Pry confirmed that Coney will be the team’s third running back in Prioleau’s absence. “He’s a strong, tough north-south runner,” said Pry. While Coney might not see many carries, he has the potential to make a similar impact to Prioleau when healthy.
Virginia Tech sells out all six home games
For the first time since 2012, Virginia Tech has sold out all six of their home games for the 2024 season. Upcoming matchups against Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Virginia will all see full capacity crowds. Whether playing at home or on the road, Hokies fans continue to support their team, no matter their record.
