Fraser Minten, the top prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs, suffered a high-ankle sprain during the 2024 Prospects Showcase in Montreal, which sidelined him from participating in training camp. Minten, who made the team out of camp last season and was expected to compete for a spot on the opening night roster, unfortunately found himself placed on season-opening injured reserve (SOIR) due to the injury.
However, there is positive news regarding his recovery. According to reports from NHL.com’s Dave McCarthy and The Hockey News’ Nick Barden, Minten was back on the ice in Toronto on Thursday morning, engaging in a vigorous skate. Although the skate was optional, he was joined by teammates Auston Matthews and William Nylander, who were also fine-tuning their skills in preparation for their upcoming matchup against the New York Rangers.

While Minten will not be in the lineup for Saturday’s game, his return to the ice is a promising sign as he works towards a comeback. It will be interesting to see how the Maple Leafs integrate him into their practice plans in the upcoming week as he ramps up his training intensity.
Once he is ready to play, it is likely that Minten will begin his season with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, where he can continue to develop his skills and gain valuable playing time.
