The Raiders have not officially confirmed that quarterback Aidan O’Connell will be placed on injured reserve due to a fractured thumb, but they are making a roster move indicating a shortage of healthy quarterbacks this week.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Raiders are set to sign Desmond Ridder from Arizona’s practice squad. Currently, O’Connell and Gardner Minshew are the only quarterbacks on the active roster, with rookie Carter Bradley on the practice squad.
Ridder was selected in the third round by Atlanta in 2022 and finished his rookie season as the team’s starting quarterback. He began the 2023 season in that role but was benched for Taylor Heinicke midway through the season. After returning to the starting position, he was benched again before being traded to Arizona in the offseason.
During his time in Atlanta, Ridder completed 322 of 503 passes for 3,544 yards, recording 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
