GOOD NEWS: Saints Land Another Highly Talented Star In Blockbuster Deal

The New Orleans Saints are making a move to bolster their struggling receiving corps by signing veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, as reported by NFL Network and ESPN. This decision comes after the Saints dropped five consecutive games, following a promising start of 2-0.

Valdes-Scantling, 30, was released by the Buffalo Bills after they acquired Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns. In his brief time with Buffalo, he recorded only two catches for 26 yards across six games. However, he is expected to step into a more significant role with the Saints, especially given their current injury challenges.

With Rashid Shaheed undergoing season-ending knee surgery and Chris Olave currently in concussion protocol, the Saints are in desperate need of depth at the receiver position. Coach Dennis Allen noted Valdes-Scantling’s size and speed as important assets for the team, particularly as they look to replace the explosiveness lost with Shaheed’s injury.

Valdes-Scantling has a solid resume, having spent his first four seasons with the Green Bay Packers before a two-year stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls. Over his seven-year career, he has amassed 188 receptions for 3,181 yards and 16 touchdowns in 98 games, including 60 starts.

As the Saints prepare for their Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Valdes-Scantling’s experience and skills could be crucial in helping the team turn around its season.
