Daniel Jones’s struggles have become a growing concern for the New York Giants as they head into Week 8. Since Week 5, Jones hasn’t thrown a touchdown, and the offense has only managed two scores overall. These issues culminated in Week 7, where Jones was benched in the fourth quarter for Drew Lock in hopes of finding a spark, though the effort fell short. With Jones expected back under center in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, his performance will be under close scrutiny. If he fails to get the offense moving, it may lead to serious discussions about his future in the starting role.
The Giants will face a Steelers team that has seen immediate improvement with its own quarterback change. Pittsburgh recently benched Justin Fields in favor of veteran Russell Wilson, who quickly proved himself by leading the Steelers to a 37-15 victory over the Jets. Giants head coach Brian Daboll spoke highly of Wilson’s explosive-play potential, which has been evident in his connection with receivers like George Pickens. Daboll’s comments about Wilson’s ability to generate big plays stand in stark contrast to Jones, who hasn’t completed a pass of 20 yards or more since Week 5.
Jones’s inability to ignite the offense—despite the return of receiver Malik Nabers—highlights issues in both the passing game and the struggling offensive line. If Week 8 brings another stagnant performance, Daboll may have no choice but to consider a change at quarterback, potentially following Pittsburgh’s example in making a move to spark the offense and keep the season from slipping away.
