Cleveland Guardians’ president of baseball operations, Chris Antonetti, is focused on evaluating the team’s season and planning for 2025, especially regarding the starting rotation. Following their American League Championship Series loss to the New York Yankees, Antonetti sees a need for more consistency among their starters.
Veteran pitchers Matthew Boyd and Alex Cobb made significant contributions and served as valuable clubhouse leaders for the young team. Antonetti expressed interest in either bringing back these experienced players or adding similar veteran arms in the offseason. However, his primary approach is to focus on player development to maximize the potential of existing talent.
Antonetti emphasized the importance of having veteran influences, particularly for a young team, and praised Boyd and Cobb for their roles. He noted that the Guardians have talented pitchers, such as Joey Cantillo, Logan Allen, and Triston McKenzie, but each faces specific challenges—whether control, home runs, or injuries—that hindered their reliability in October. Developing these players further to bring out their best versions will be Cleveland’s top priority for the offseason.
