Brunson praised head coach Tom Thibodeau and the organization for their commitment to continual improvement, noting, “They take the next step.”
Brunson was the standout performer, leading the Knicks in scoring. However, it was backup point guard Miles McBride who added a surprising 22 points, stepping up in a challenging matchup against the Celtics. While the Knicks managed to score 109 points—often enough to win in the NBA—the Celtics showcased their dominance with a staggering 61 three-point attempts, a clear indication of their strategic focus on outside shooting.
To elevate their game and truly compete with top-tier teams like the Celtics, the Knicks must adjust their offensive approach. Integrating Karl-Anthony Towns into the lineup could provide a significant boost, especially if he increases his three-point shooting attempts. Thibodeau, traditionally known for his defensive strategies rather than offensive innovation, will need to adapt his coaching style to foster a more dynamic offense.
The Knicks shot a commendable 36 percent from three-point range on 30 attempts, but to keep pace with the Celtics’ prolific shooting, they will have to broaden their offensive scope. Embracing a more expansive style of play is crucial for maintaining Brunson’s optimism that the team is on a trajectory of growth.
