GOOD NEWS: Gators get incredible news on DJ Lagway’s hamstring injury

When freshman quarterback DJ Lagway injured his hamstring against the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators fans feared the worst—could it be a season-ending setback for the young star? Fortunately, that’s not the case.

Although head coach Billy Napier initially described the injury as significant, Lagway’s MRI results brought far better news than expected. Napier confirmed that Lagway avoided a serious injury, and there’s now a possibility he could even start in the upcoming game against the Texas Longhorns in Austin this weekend.

Florida QB DJ Lagway has avoided a serious injury for the Florida Gators

During the loss to Georgia, DJ Lagway attempted a run but landed awkwardly, causing immediate pain. Things worsened as he couldn’t stand on his own, requiring a cart to leave the field.

Some Florida fans argue that if Lagway hadn’t been injured, the Gators might have pulled off the upset in Jacksonville. But, with that possibility gone, Lagway will now focus on rehabbing his hamstring and aiming for a return, though Billy Napier and his staff won’t rush him back. While Napier hasn’t ruled out Lagway for the Texas game, his participation is uncertain.

The good news is that Lagway is expected back at some point in 2024. If he doesn’t play against Texas, his outlook appears promising for a return on Nov. 16, when Florida takes on LSU at home.
