The Las Vegas Raiders suffered their fifth straight loss this past week, losing comfortably to the Cincinnati Bengals. With their most recent defeat, they are now 2-7, worst in the division, and have all but eliminated any chance of making the playoffs. The squad made the decision to fire a portion of its coaching staff following the defeat. The Raiders made a significant organizational change when they fired Luke Getsy, their previous offensive coordinator. They have now decided to bolster the coaching staff with some fresh talent.
According to a recent update, the Raiders have assigned new roles to Scott Turner, Joe Philbin, and Norv Turner. Scott Turner steps in as interim offensive coordinator, moving up from his role as passing game coordinator, a position he’s held since 2023. Turner brings previous experience as an offensive coordinator with the Washington Commanders from 2020 to 2022. Joe Philbin, who has been coaching in college and the NFL since the 1980s, shifts from a senior offensive assistant role to interim offensive line coach. Norv Turner, who served as the Raiders’ head coach from 2004 to 2005, returns as a senior advisor after being out of the league since 2019.
While these adjustments may not significantly impact the Raiders’ season as they’re well out of playoff contention, any change at this point might provide a spark or serve as a step in the right direction.
