When the Buffalo Bills play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, they hope to extend their winning streak to five games. The Bills opened the 21-day practice window for All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano on Monday, which was a huge step in the right direction for their defense. The veteran will now start practicing once more in an effort to make a comeback in the upcoming weeks after being placed on injured reserve since the preseason due to a torn bicep.
There is a lengthy window of time before Milano can formally return to the field for a game, since the team has three weeks to activate him to the roster. Coach Sean McDermott discussed the team’s intentions for handling his return and what that timeframe looks like.
“We’ll approach it one week at a time,” McDermott said, outlining the team’s plan. “We’ll see how things progress this week. Given that it’s been a while since he’s played, he’s done a remarkable job, along with our trainers, getting to a place where he can be back on the field. We’re really just taking it one day and week at a time. Toward the end of the week, the team will reassess his status and determine what the following week may look like for him.” While Milano is unlikely to play against the Chiefs, McDermott hinted that a return after the bye week for the Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers remains possible.
