It’s widely expected that key players like Sonny Gray and Ryan Helsley could be traded to help achieve this goal. Another familiar face potentially on the move is Nolan Arenado, who could be traded to the National League East in a surprising deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. MLB.com’s Will Leitch suggested on Wednesday that Arenado would be a strong addition to the Phillies, especially if they are open to trading Alec Bohm. With three years and $74 million left on his contract (excluding the portion covered by the Colorado Rockies), Arenado remains an affordable option. “If you’re aiming to contend for a World Series over the next few seasons, Arenado would be a valuable asset,” Leitch noted.
Nolan Arenado joined the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021 with the goal of helping the team secure its 12th World Series title, following eight seasons with the Colorado Rockies, where he experienced two playoff appearances. However, Arenado’s championship window with the Cardinals is shrinking. As the team shifts toward a youth-focused rebuild, it may be some time before they return to the postseason, let alone contend for a World Series.
Philadelphia third baseman Alec Bohm struggled significantly in the playoffs this year, making a trade for Nolan Arenado to take over at third base an appealing option. Arenado, a 10-time Gold Glove winner, has a proven track record, and if the Phillies are committed to improving their roster after last season, replacing Bohm with Arenado could be a positive move.
