The New York Rangers, currently on a two-game losing streak, will face the St. Louis Blues on Monday without one of their key players. It was announced that Chris Kreider will miss the game due to an upper-body injury.
Chris Kreider Out With Injury
Chris Kreider has spent his entire 13-year NHL career with the New York Rangers, showcasing remarkable loyalty and consistency. The Boxford, Massachusetts native has tallied nine goals and nine points in 19 games this season, with a Corsi For percentage of 50.1 and a relative Corsi of 2.6.
Over his career, the 33-year-old forward has amassed 313 goals and 248 assists, totaling 561 points in 834 games. Drafted 19th overall in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft, Kreider first made a name for himself as a standout at Boston College, earning a spot on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team during the 2009-10 season.
Internationally, Kreider has represented the United States with distinction, capturing a gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships, a bronze at the 2011 World Juniors, and another bronze at the 2018 IIHF World Championships.
While currently sidelined with an upper-body injury, Kreider has also found himself in trade rumors. According to Elliotte Friedman, both Kreider and team captain Jacob Trouba might be potential trade assets as the Rangers evaluate their roster.
What It Means
Chris Kreider has been a key fixture in the Rangers’ lineup for years, using his size and physicality to be a constant threat in front of the net. With Kreider sidelined, the Rangers are making adjustments to their forward group to compensate for his absence.
Matt Rempe has been called up to provide reinforcement. While he doesn’t possess Kreider’s offensive prowess, Rempe brings a physical presence and an edge that could energize the lineup. Additionally, Brett Berard is set to make his NHL debut against the Blues on Monday night. The 22-year-old forward, known for his tenacity and energy, could help inject some much-needed spark as the Rangers return to Madison Square Garden following a four-game road trip.
