Florida secured a commitment from four-star running back Byron Louis, a former Florida State pledge, on Tuesday morning, marking their fourth commitment in less than 24 hours and delivering another blow to Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class. Louis, ranked No. 11 among running backs by ESPN, committed to Florida three days after visiting the Gators during their win over No. 9 Ole Miss in Week 13. His commitment follows Florida’s earlier flip of USC linebacker Ty Jackson (No. 54 in the ESPN 300), and later additions of offensive tackle Jahari Medlock (from Cincinnati) and wide receiver Muizz Tounkara (from Arizona).
Louis, ranked No. 196 in the ESPN 300, joins a list of players, including quarterback Tramell Jones and offensive guard Daniel Pierre Louis, who previously pledged to Florida State before joining the Gators. Since Nov. 17, Florida has added three former Seminoles commitments to its 2025 class, currently ranked 27th.
Louis had initially committed to Florida State in September, choosing them over Georgia, Miami, and Wisconsin. His switch to Florida brings the total number of decommits from Florida State’s 2025 class to eight, with five other ESPN 300 prospects also backing out amid a tough season for the Seminoles. Florida State’s class, once featuring 12 top-300 commitments, now has only six ESPN 300 pledges, including five-star offensive tackle Solomon Thomas. The Seminoles recently gained a boost by flipping Oklahoma quarterback Kevin Sperry (No. 132 in the ESPN 300) into their class after Jones decommitted earlier this month.
Florida’s recent recruiting success, fueled by the program’s positive finish to the season and stability under head coach Billy Napier, has given the Gators a strong push in the recruiting race. Louis marks Florida’s eighth addition to the 2025 class since Napier’s status as head coach was secured on Nov. 7. The Gators have hosted high-profile recruits, including four-star wide receivers Jaime Ffrench and Dallas Wilson, as they work to finish the 2025 cycle strong.
Florida will face Florida State on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 as both teams continue to battle on the recruiting trail before the early signing period.
