BREAKING: Brent Pry Gives Alarming Update on Coaching Staff For 2025

Before the 2024 college football season, Virginia Tech was widely regarded as a dark horse contender for the new 12-team College Football Playoff. This optimism stemmed from the Hokies retaining key players and finishing the 2023 season on a strong note.

Throughout the preseason, head coach Brent Pry struck the right tone, fueling confidence that the team’s rebuild was ahead of schedule in his third year at the helm. However, a shocking overtime loss to Vanderbilt in the season opener set a negative tone for what ultimately became a disappointing 6-6 season. The team needed a win over Virginia in their final regular-season game just to secure bowl eligibility.

The Hokies’ struggles this year, combined with questionable coaching decisions—whether from Pry, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, or defensive coordinator Chris Marve—suggest that coaching played a role in the underwhelming results. This has sparked speculation about potential coaching staff changes, but it seems no such adjustments are planned at this time.

Brent Pry hopes there will be no changes to his staff for 2025

Following early signing day on Wednesday, Brent Pry addressed the media, and one notable question focused on whether there would be changes to his coaching staff for next season. The former Penn State defensive coordinator gave no indication that he planned to make any adjustments.

“I’m hopeful. We’ve got great people in this building,” Pry said. “There are certainly some things that we have to do better. And it starts with me.”

That admission—while honest—might be an understatement. Throughout the season, issues like poor clock management, a lack of in-game adjustments, and questionable offensive strategies stood out. A prime example was the Clemson game, where the Hokies ran the ball just four times, exposing an illogical game plan. On defense, coordinator Chris Marve either failed to make adjustments or made them too late to have an impact.

Despite opportunities for improvement across the staff, Pry appears set on keeping the current group intact for 2025. This decision raises concerns that the team could see similar results next season, especially with a roster that has yet to show major upgrades. While many expected staff changes after a disappointing campaign, none seem forthcoming. The focus now shifts to how the team approaches the transfer portal, which opens next week, and whether it can address critical roster needs.
