REPORT: Florida reportedly losing key defensive player to transfer portal

Florida edge rusher Jack Pyburn is reportedly entering the transfer portal, according to a report by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Pyburn played a significant role in the Gators’ front seven this season, recording 60 tackles, 2 sacks, and 5 tackles for loss.

If Jack Pyburn ultimately leaves Florida, it would be a significant loss for the program. The versatile defender excels at disrupting plays in the backfield and is a strong asset against the run.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Pyburn logged 334 snaps over 12 games this season. His 77.1 rush defense grade was the second-highest among Florida’s edge defenders, and he led the group with 187 rush defense snaps.

With the transfer portal officially opening on Monday, Florida may face additional departures in the coming weeks. However, the Gators are also expected to actively pursue talent in the portal as they aim to strengthen their roster for the 2025 season, which will feature DJ Lagway entering his second year in the program.

Pyburn has one year of eligibility remaining, making him an attractive option for teams looking to add an experienced edge rusher.
