The Braves continue their trend of making cost-effective or depth-enhancing moves with their latest trade. According to an official announcement, Atlanta has acquired Davis Daniel from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Mitch Farris.
Farris, a 14th-round pick in the 2023 draft, has pitched 124.2 innings since joining the Braves. He has started 21 games and made nine relief appearances, achieving a 2.96 ERA, a 30% strikeout rate, and a 9.7% walk rate, primarily at the High-A level.
Daniel, on the other hand, has limited MLB experience, having pitched 42.2 innings for the Angels over the past two seasons with a 5.06 ERA. However, his performance in Triple-A shows promise. At 28, he made 21 starts, covering 118 innings with a 5.42 ERA. While his ERA isn’t impressive, his 23.3% strikeout rate, 6.5% walk rate, and a 4.41 FIP suggest he was somewhat unlucky.
This trade may not make a significant impact, but it highlights Atlanta’s focus on reinforcing organizational depth. With key injuries affecting the team throughout last season, depth remains a priority for Alex Anthopoulos.
Although the Braves still need to address the outfield, rotation, and bullpen, fans are growing impatient as the offseason progresses. However, it’s likely Anthopoulos has more moves in store to strengthen the team further.
