Entering Week 17 with 10 consecutive losses, New York pulled off a surprising 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium. It marked the Giants’ highest-scoring game of the season, as they had not surpassed 29 points in any prior contest. Meanwhile, the loss dealt a blow to the Colts, who needed a win to stay in the playoff race.
Quarterback Drew Lock was the driving force behind the victory, earning praise from head coach Brian Daboll. “If you get good quarterback play, you have an opportunity in every game,” Daboll told reporters after the game.
While Lock’s performance was a bright spot, it may have unintended consequences for the Giants’ future. The team is expected to target a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Sunday’s win could hurt their chances of securing their top choice.
The Patriots, currently on a six-game losing streak, now hold the No. 1 overall pick. Although New England is unlikely to draft a quarterback, they could trade the top pick to a QB-needy team, leveraging its value for additional draft capital. Given their rebuilding phase, such a move would make strategic sense for the Patriots.
This doesn’t rule out the Giants landing a strong quarterback prospect in the draft, but it adds an extra layer of frustration for fans. A standout performance from a journeyman quarterback might ultimately hinder New York’s chances of selecting the best signal-caller in the 2025 class, complicating their plans for a brighter future.
