When Matt Moore was hired to succeed Ron Crook as Virginia Tech’s offensive line coach, he faced the daunting task of rebuilding a line almost from scratch. With players exhausting their eligibility or entering the transfer portal, there was significant work ahead.
Moore wasted no time securing his first commitment, as Tomas Rimac followed him from West Virginia shortly after his hiring. With one year of eligibility left, Rimac was just the beginning of the necessary additions through the transfer portal. On Monday afternoon, the Hokies landed a second offensive line commitment, and once again, Moore turned to a familiar player.
Former West Virginia OL Kyle Altuner commits to Virginia Tech
While the Hokies are in Charlotte preparing for Friday night’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota at Bank of America Stadium, they secured another commitment for their 2025 offensive line. Kyle Altuner, a former four-star recruit from West Virginia, announced his commitment. Ranked by 247Sports as West Virginia’s top prospect in the Class of 2024 and the 14th-best interior offensive lineman in the country, Altuner brings notable talent to Virginia Tech.
With four years of eligibility remaining, Altuner adds much-needed depth to the Hokies’ offensive line. The team has faced significant departures, including Xavier Chaplin transferring to Auburn, Braelin Moore committing to LSU after entering the portal, and the graduations of Parker Clements and Kaden Moore. There is still considerable work ahead for Matt Moore, both in the transfer portal and in developing younger players. However, securing Rimac and Altuner is a solid foundation for rebuilding the line in Blacksburg.
