LSU reserve quarterback Colin Hurley was hospitalized early Thursday morning after his vehicle collided with an oak tree near campus.
According to emergency documentation obtained by WBRZ-TV, Hurley was found unresponsive but breathing by the Baton Rouge Fire Department just before 3 a.m. The freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, has not yet appeared in a game for the Tigers.
His family released a statement through the university, describing his condition as “stable.” LSU Police, who were also at the scene, declined to comment on the accident’s possible cause, noting their report would not be publicly available for seven to 10 days.
“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion,” the family said. “Colin is resting and stable while more tests and care are being administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.”
Due to his status as a minor, LSU officials referred all inquiries to Hurley’s family.
