The Virginia Tech football team has been actively utilizing the transfer portal to bolster its roster for the 2025 season. Recently, the Hokies added depth to their backfield, complementing quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson with the addition of Coastal Carolina running back Braydon Bennett.
Bennett becomes the third running back to commit to Virginia Tech this cycle, joining Terion Stewart from Bowling Green and Marcellous Hawkins from Central Missouri. Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and head coach Brent Pry continue to strengthen the team’s offensive unit.
Bennett announced his commitment on social media, sharing his enthusiasm for joining the Hokies. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound running back from Greenville, South Carolina, brings one year of eligibility and an impressive résumé. In the 2024 season, he rushed for 781 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 188 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions for Coastal Carolina. However, in the Chanticleers’ Myrtle Beach Bowl loss to UTSA, Bennett was limited to 54 yards on 22 carries.

After entering the transfer portal on December 23, Bennett joins a Hokies backfield looking to reload following the departures of Bhayshul Tuten to the NFL and Malachi Thomas to the portal. The room still features returning talent, including P.J. Prioleau, who is recovering from a season-ending injury, and Jeremiah Coney, who showed promise during the season. Additionally, incoming freshman Jeff Overton has drawn significant praise from the coaching staff and could contribute immediately.
Bennett is Virginia Tech’s 19th transfer commit this offseason as the team undergoes a major roster overhaul. With Pry’s focus on adding experienced players, the Hokies aim to build a competitive foundation heading into the 2025 campaign.
