The Minnesota Vikings overcame a protracted drought by adding a seventh Pro Bowl player to their 2024 roster. According to an NFL announcement on Monday, right tackle Brian O’Neill, who was previously an alternate, was selected to the Pro Bowl on January 27 in place of Philadelphia Eagles tackle Lane Johnson. A lengthy curse in Minnesota came to an end when O’Neill was added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster. O’Neill, who received his second Pro Bowl selection in his career, is the first offensive lineman selected by the Vikings to compete in multiple Pro Bowls since guard Matt Birk in 2001. In 2021, O’Neill was mentioned once again.
The abundance of skill at tackle has made it difficult to make an impression, but his repeated exclusions from the all-star team have seemed like a snub. In any case, the 29-year-old has spent the last seven years as a model of consistency on the right side. According to Pro Football Focus, O’Neill has four clean sheets in four games this season, allowing no sacks, hits, or pressure. Even though the team lost Christian Darrisaw for the season the week before the trade deadline, he held up admirably in the latter part of the season.
O’Neill joins OLB Andrew Van Ginkel, WR Justin Jefferson, CB Byron Murphy Jr., OLB Jonathan Greenard, LS Andrew DePaola, and quarterback Sam Darnold. Under Kevin O’Connell, he is the Vikings’ 17th Pro Bowl selection in three years.
