Baltimore is negotiating a contract extension with offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who led the Ravens to the top-ranked offense in total yards and rushing average this season, according to ESPN.
Monken, 58, has attracted attention from NFL teams looking for head coaches after the past two seasons in Baltimore, including the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers after 2023, and the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears following the 2024 regular season.
“He’s an old-school football coach with a modern, creative mindset,” said Ravens coach John Harbaugh last week. “I’m excited about the next phase of this offense because we’ve really figured out how to structure it and make use of the different platforms available.”
The Ravens led the league with 424.9 total yards and 187.6 rushing yards per game. They also ranked third in scoring with 30.5 points per game. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, a finalist for NFL MVP, set career highs, completing 316 of 474 passes (66.7%) for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns. He also rushed for 915 yards and four touchdowns.
Baltimore’s rushing attack averaged a league-best 156.5 yards per game in 2023.
Monken joined the Ravens after three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Georgia, where he helped the team win national championships in 2021 and 2022. He also has NFL experience, having been the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016-2018. Additionally, Monken served as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receivers coach from 2007-2010.
Monken was also the head coach at Southern Mississippi from 2013-2015, where his teams went 13-25, with a 9-5 record in 2015.
