REPORT: South Carolina Makes Terrible Anouncement After LSU Game

South Carolina suspended its women’s basketball team’s in-arena DJ, DJ T.O., for one game after playing a song by Flau’jae Johnson’s late father following the Gamecocks’ 66-56 win over LSU on Friday. DJ T.O. played an instrumental version of “Cut Friends,” a song recorded by Johnson’s father, Jason “Camouflage” Johnson, before he was killed in a 2003 shooting, just months before Flau’jae was born.

South Carolina athletics released a statement on Sunday, acknowledging that the DJ’s actions were upsetting to Flau’jae and her family and disrespectful to LSU fans and the program. The school expressed regret that the incident occurred in their venue and apologized to Flau’jae, her family, and LSU.

Flau’jae Johnson, a star guard for LSU and an up-and-coming rapper herself, expressed her displeasure with the DJ’s song choice on social media, calling it “nasty behavior.” The DJ later apologized in a follow-up post. South Carolina also stated it would work with the DJ to educate her on future expectations.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey was asked about the incident after LSU’s victory over Texas A&M on Sunday. She expressed concern for Flau’jae, saying, “All I care about is Flau’jae. All I care about is her family.” Mulkey emphasized her love and support for Johnson, calling her “joyful” and “wonderful for LSU and our game.”
