SHOCK!!! Alabama’s All-American Point Guard Mother Issued Another Unexpected Statement After…

The mother of Crimson Tide basketball All-American point guard Mark Sears issued a statement Monday following social media comments about her son being benched during Alabama’s victory over LSU on Saturday.

As previously reported, Sears played 17 minutes but did not see action in the second half, finishing the game scoreless. Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats explained after the game that he chose to stick with the players he believed gave the team the best chance to win.

In response to questions about Sears’ benching, Lameka Sears engaged with several social media comments, expressing her disagreement with the decision. One widely circulated comment read: “I don’t think he played badly! He just was denied the chance to finish! Period!”

After her remarks gained attention across various media platforms, Lameka Sears issued a follow-up statement clarifying her position.

“As a mother, while I may not agree with the decision, I respect Coach [Nate] Oats and Alabama’s coaching staff,” she said. “I didn’t agree with Mark being benched for the entire second half, but I understand that moments like these are part of sports, especially at this level. Mark didn’t play poorly in my opinion—sometimes shots just don’t fall. But every player deserves a chance to regain their rhythm.”

She also emphasized her son’s dedication and the emotional investment he has in his team, stating, “Mark’s emotions on the bench reflect his passion and commitment to his teammates. We’re proud of how he handles moments like these with maturity and focus. Mark and his teammates have poured blood, sweat, and tears into this program. He isn’t entitled; he values hard work and discipline because we’ve instilled those values in him.”

Lameka Sears concluded by highlighting her unconditional support for her son. “Please understand, I am his mother, and he will always be my son—period. Even when the ball stops bouncing, I’ll always be that mom. My love and protection as a mother have been misinterpreted as disrespect, but that’s simply who I am.”
