HUGE BOOST: Washington Lands Another Highly Experienced QB In Blockbuster Deal

Washington football is making a notable addition at quarterback through the transfer portal as the Huskies begin their second year in the Big Ten. Jedd Fisch is continuing his efforts to rebuild the program, which reached the National Championship game just over a year ago. After a challenging first season, the Huskies finished 2024 with a 6-7 overall record and a 4-5 mark in conference play.

Quarterback was a weakness for last year’s team, but with sophomore Desmond Williams Jr. set to start in 2025, the Huskies have strengthened their depth at the position. According to Hayes Fawcett, National Recruiting/Transfer Portal Reporter for On3sports, Tulane transfer QB Kai Horton has committed to Washington. Horton, a 6’4″, 220-pound quarterback, has one year of eligibility left.

Kai Horton provides some stability for the Huskies at the sport’s most important position

Although Horton has limited stats from his time at Tulane, his experience is a valuable asset for a Washington team seeking a new identity under Jedd Fisch. Last year was challenging as the former Arizona head coach worked to completely rebuild the roster. In his second year, expectations will be higher in Seattle for a program that has enjoyed recent success.

Quarterback was a weak point for last year’s team, but with sophomore Desmond Williams Jr. slated to start in 2025, the Huskies have bolstered their depth at the position. According to Hayes Fawcett, National Recruiting/Transfer Portal Reporter for On3sports, Tulane transfer QB Kai Horton has committed to Washington. The 6’4″, 220-pound quarterback has one year of eligibility left.

Horton offers stability at the quarterback position for Washington, which is trying to establish a new identity under Jedd Fisch. Last year was challenging as Fisch, the former Arizona head coach, worked to fully rebuild the roster. In his second season, expectations will be higher in Seattle for a program with a recent history of success.

Despite limited statistics at Tulane, Horton’s experience is valuable for Washington. The Huskies have appeared in New Year’s Six bowl games four times in the past nine years, including two College Football Playoff trips. With the program’s standards remaining high, especially with the 12-team playoff, Washington should be in the hunt for a playoff spot annually.

The good news for Fisch is that he’s bringing in the 18th-best recruiting class in the country, along with several transfers from established programs who can contribute right away. These additions will be crucial for Washington to make progress in 2025, especially given that the team’s schedule remains as tough as it was in 2024.

Jedd Fisch’s team faces elite Big Ten programs like Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon, and will also host an Illinois team projected to be in the top 15 in 2025. While the competition remains challenging, this gives Washington ample opportunity to demonstrate its improvement.

Overall, Kai Horton is unlikely to be the starter in Seattle, but as a native of Carthage, Texas, he provides valuable depth at a position Washington needs to strengthen for the upcoming season. If called upon to take the reins at quarterback, Horton will be prepared to step up.
