JUST IN: Rob Thomson Share Unexpected Stronge Statement Involving Alec Bohm

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm was at the center of trade rumors earlier this offseason.

Despite earning his first All-Star start, there were signs that the Phillies were considering a potential move. Bohm had an impressive first half, hitting .295/.348/.482 with 11 home runs, 33 doubles, and 70 RBI. However, his production declined in the second half, as he slashed .251/.299/.382 with just four homers, 11 doubles, and 27 RBI.

A left-hand strain in September sidelined Bohm, and he struggled after returning. His postseason performance was also underwhelming, as he went 1-for-13 in the Phillies’ NLDS loss to the Mets, was benched in Game 2, and showed visible frustration after making outs.

Trade talks eventually died down after reports surfaced about Philadelphia’s high asking price. The Phillies reportedly sought elite reliever Mason Miller from the Athletics and All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Astros, but neither deal materialized.

Unless something unexpected happens, Bohm is expected to remain the Phillies’ starting third baseman on Opening Day. In a recent interview on The Phillies Show podcast, manager Rob Thomson discussed areas where Bohm needs to improve.

Philadelphia Phillies manager gives honest assessment about Alec Bohm

Rob Thomson stated that Alec Bohm needs to better manage his emotions in order to stay focused.

Thomson praised Bohm’s potential, noting that he is a talented player but sometimes lets his emotions affect his focus. He emphasized that if Bohm can stay composed, he has the potential to become a perennial All-Star, highlighting Bohm’s ability to hit both right-handed and left-handed pitchers and his impressive defensive development at the major league level.

Phillies' Rob Thompson squashes Alec Bohm trade rumors

Thomson envisions Bohm as a key offensive force in a lineup that already includes stars like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner. He encouraged Bohm to stay positive, acknowledging that everyone gets emotional, but it’s about how a player handles those moments and moves on. If Bohm maintains focus, Thomson believes he could consistently hit .320 with 30 home runs and 120 RBIs as a regular presence in the middle of the Phillies’ lineup.

Thomson emphasized the importance of not dwelling on past outcomes, advising Bohm to stay focused on the present, regardless of what has happened before.

As the Phillies look to 2025, Bohm’s emotional control will be crucial to his continued development. The team holds control over him through 2026, when he will become a free agent.
