ESPN NEWS: Dukes Makes Another Groundbreaking Announcement

After nearly two years away from calling college basketball games, Dick Vitale is set to return to the microphone on Saturday, Feb. 8, for the Duke vs. Clemson matchup, ESPN announced on Monday.

Vitale will head to Clemson, where he will join Dave O’Brien and Cory Alexander for the broadcast.

Last month, Vitale was given the green light to resume announcing after receiving confirmation that his vocal cords are officially cancer-free. Over the past few years, the legendary analyst has battled multiple forms of cancer, including melanoma, lymphoma, and most recently, laryngeal cancer. While he has been sidelined during his recovery, he has consistently expressed his eagerness to return to the court and call games once again.

Vitale had initially planned to return to announcing on Jan. 25 for the Duke vs. Wake Forest game but decided to postpone after an at-home accident raised some health concerns.

It’s uncertain how many more games he will call for the remainder of the 2024-25 college basketball season, but Saturday’s broadcast will help him gauge his capacity to take on more work.

Fans can look forward to Vitale’s signature energy and enthusiasm back on the mic this weekend.
