BREAKING NEWS: Cincinnati Reds Land Another Free Agent Elite Star

The Cincinnati Reds have continued making minor league signings, this time reuniting with corner infielder Edwin Ríos on a contract for the 2025 season. Ríos, who was part of the organization in 2024, had a brief stint with the Reds before the All-Star break, appearing in five games and going 1-for-9 with a walk.

He spent the rest of the season in Triple-A with Louisville, where he was the top hitter in the Reds’ farm system. Over 99 games with the Bats, the 30-year-old posted a .286/.385/.547 slash line. He ranked second in the system in doubles (28), home runs (22), batting average (.286), and on-base percentage (.385), while leading in slugging percentage (.547) and OPS (.932). His .932 OPS also topped the International League, and he finished second in home runs.

The 2024 season marked the sixth consecutive year Ríos saw time in the majors. In 2020, he played for the Dodgers during their World Series-winning run, appearing in games across all three rounds of the postseason.

While the Reds used Ríos exclusively at first and third base in 2024, he has previous minor league experience in the corner outfield spots from his time with the Dodgers organization. Turning 31 in April, he is likely viewed as a depth option, similar to last year when Cincinnati initially signed him. Every team needs reliable depth players, and Ríos has filled that role for multiple clubs in recent seasons.

As of now, there are no reports indicating that Ríos received an invitation to big league camp. His signing was listed on the transaction wire as a minor league deal, though it’s possible that an invite to spring training could be announced later.
