BREAKING NEWS: Desperate Giants Confirms Another Free-Agent Deal

The New York Giants could benefit from adding more veteran presence to their secondary. Their young cornerbacks faced difficulties throughout the 2024 season, which left the defensive backfield exposed.

This offseason, the Giants will aim to strengthen their cornerback position, ideally by adding an experienced veteran who can provide stability to the secondary. An underrated free agent could be a valuable addition to help address this need.

Giants could target CB Rasul Douglas in free agency

The Giants could consider targeting veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas in free agency this offseason. The 30-year-old defensive back has been a reliable starter for multiple teams throughout his career. He will become an unrestricted free agent after completing a three-year contract with the Buffalo Bills, having been traded from the Green Bay Packers.

In 2024, Douglas recorded 58 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, and five passes defended. He has consistently been a playmaker, registering at least seven pass breakups in six of his seven NFL seasons and recording four or more interceptions in each of the past three years.

As the Giants head into 2025, Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott are currently projected as the starting outside cornerbacks. However, that situation is likely to evolve. Banks has two seasons of starting experience, while Flott has rotated in and out of the lineup over the past three years. Adding a veteran like Douglas could provide much-needed stability to the secondary.

Douglas has made 80 career starts and brings valuable experience to the position. His time with the Bills also gives him a connection to Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, both of whom were part of Buffalo’s front office before joining New York.

That familiarity could work in the Giants’ favor as they look to upgrade their secondary. Douglas would provide a solid veteran presence at cornerback and could likely be signed at a reasonable price. His affordability might even allow the Giants to pursue an additional upgrade at the position.

The Giants have had success finding value in free agency before, and adding Douglas could be another savvy move to bolster their defense.
