Ten days after being traded from the New York Rangers to the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster deal for J.T. Miller, Filip Chytil shared a farewell and thank-you message on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone in the New York Rangers organization—especially my teammates, staff, and fans—for their support over the past seven years,” Chytil wrote. “I have so many incredible memories that I will cherish forever. But now, I’m embracing every moment in Vancouver and couldn’t be happier to be part of the Canucks organization!”
Filip Chytil returns to New York to face Rangers in March
Chytil’s eight-season journey in New York was full of ups and downs after being selected 21st overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft. Over that span, he played in 378 games, tallying 75 goals and 89 assists for a total of 164 points. Though his development took time, he gradually became a reliable two-way player.
However, his career was marred by multiple head injuries. Just as he was building momentum following a career-best 22-goal, 45-point season in 2022-23, he suffered a significant setback that limited him to just 10 regular-season games in 2023-24.
Chytil battled through adversity and made his return for the Rangers at the start of the 2024-25 season, scoring in the opening game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Before being traded to Vancouver, he recorded 11 goals and 20 points in 41 games, in what was a tough but necessary move for the Rangers.
Since joining the Canucks, Chytil has contributed one goal and two assists in four games while averaging 18:39 of ice time—over four minutes more than his 14:20 average with New York this season.
He made an immediate impact with Vancouver, scoring in his debut against the Detroit Red Wings to tie the game at two, though the Canucks ultimately fell in overtime.
Chytil will return to Madison Square Garden on March 22 when the Canucks face the Rangers, giving Blueshirts fans a chance to show their appreciation for the message he shared on Instagram.
