According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are set to hire Chris Tabor as their new special teams coordinator.
Tabor, who spent last season out of the NFL, previously served as the interim head coach for the Carolina Panthers in 2023. His hiring comes just two days after the Bills parted ways with former special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley.
Bringing 17 years of NFL coaching experience, Tabor has held special teams coordinator roles with the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers from 2011 to 2023.
The Bills struggled with inconsistency on special teams throughout the 2024-25 season, prompting a change in leadership. A well-functioning special teams unit often operates without drawing much attention, but for Buffalo, that wasn’t the case last season. Costly mistakes frequently became a talking point, highlighting the need for improvement.
With Tabor now in place, the Bills hope to stabilize their special teams unit and continue their longstanding connection with former Carolina Panthers staff.
