Former All-Star outfielder Austin Hays has signed a one-year, $5 million guaranteed contract with the Cincinnati Reds, with the potential to earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances.
Hays will earn a $4 million salary in 2025, with his deal including a $12 million mutual option for 2026 and a $1 million buyout. He can receive $100,000 for reaching 400 plate appearances, with additional $100,000 bonuses at every 50-plate-appearance mark up to 600.
An All-Star with Baltimore in 2023, Hays would receive a $125,000 bonus for another All-Star selection, as well as for winning a Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, or Comeback Player of the Year award. Last season, he hit .275 with 16 home runs and 67 RBIs before being traded to Philadelphia on July 26. While dealing with a kidney infection, he batted .256 with two homers and six RBIs in 22 games for the Phillies, finishing the season with a .303 average, five home runs, and 20 RBIs. Hays became a free agent in November after Philadelphia declined to offer him a 2025 contract.
Additionally, left-hander Wade Miley signed a minor league deal with the Reds on Feb. 4. If added to the 40-man roster, he will earn a $2.5 million major league salary and $300,000 in the minors. The 39-year-old can also earn up to $1.5 million in performance bonuses, receiving $15,000 per inning pitched from one through 100.
An All-Star with Arizona in 2012, Miley has a career record of 108-99 with a 4.07 ERA over 14 major league seasons. He was limited to just two starts for Milwaukee in 2024 before undergoing Tommy John surgery on May 7.
