BREAKING NEWS: The Hokies Makes Another Groundbreaking Announcement

Virginia Tech is reportedly closing in on hiring Buffalo Bills assistant Christian Taylor as its new offensive coordinator, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports.

Taylor, 41, spent last season as a defensive quality control coach for the Bills but made his mark as an innovative offensive mind during his time at William & Mary. From 2020 to 2023, he served as the Tribe’s offensive coordinator and running backs coach, earning recognition as the 2023 AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year.

Taylor’s connection to Buffalo stems from William & Mary ties, as Bills head coach Sean McDermott and offensive coordinator Joe Brady are also alumni. He played quarterback for the Tribe before transitioning into coaching.

Virginia Tech’s need for an offensive coordinator arose unexpectedly when Tyler Bowen left last week to become Ohio State’s offensive line coach. Head coach Brent Pry had to act fast in a tough hiring cycle and initially explored other options, including former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown, who ultimately declined multiple offers.

This would mark Pry’s second major staff hire this offseason, following the addition of defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes, who also came from the NFL after coaching linebackers for the Arizona Cardinals. Like Taylor, Siefkes previously found success at the college level, having been a defensive coordinator at Wofford.

The hire has not yet been finalized, but more details should emerge soon.
