HUGE BOOST: The Braves Lands Another Blockbuster Deal Strengthening Squad Depth

The Braves’ approach of signing numerous relievers to minor-league deals continued Sunday evening with the addition of local product Buck Farmer as a non-roster invitee, according to Justin Toscano of the AJC.

Farmer, a Georgia native and former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, has pitched 11 seasons in the majors with Detroit and Cincinnati, spending the last three years with the Reds. His time in Cincinnati is particularly intriguing for Atlanta, as he logged 193 innings out of the bullpen with a solid 3.68 ERA and 4.00 FIP.

For someone who just signed a non-guaranteed minor-league deal, those numbers are impressive, making Farmer arguably the most accomplished reliever the Braves have added this offseason.

However, there are some concerns. His average fastball velocity dipped from 94.0 mph in 2023 to 92.9 mph in 2024, and he has struggled against left-handed hitters in recent years. These factors likely played a role in him not landing a guaranteed contract, allowing the Braves to take a low-risk chance on him.

Now, Farmer joins a crowded group of arms in Spring Training competing for a spot in the 2025 bullpen. Given his experience and past success, he could have an edge over some of the competition.
