REPORT: The Vikings Name Potential Cut Candidate This Offseason

The Minnesota Vikings are entering a critical offseason, with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah confronted with significant roster choices.

With almost half the team approaching free agency and limited draft assets, the Vikings’ front office has a tough task ahead.

The positive aspect? The Vikings have about $58 million in cap space, giving them some flexibility as they work on building their future roster.

One of the key decisions is the future of offensive guard Ed Ingram, who may be nearing the end of his time in Minnesota. After a tough season that saw him lose his starting spot, Ingram’s place on the team is increasingly uncertain.

Star Tribune reporter Ben Goessling recently highlighted that it’s “highly unlikely” Ingram will remain with the team at his current cap hit. The Purple Persuasion also shared this on X, stating:

“#Vikings G Ed Ingram is ‘highly unlikely’ to return at the current cap number, per @BenGoessling and is a candidate to be cut. Goessling notes he would only take on $385K of dead money if they cut Ingram.”

Ingram’s 2024 season didn’t meet expectations, showing regression rather than the expected improvement. His contract situation adds complexity, as he’s entering the final year with a $3.7 million cap hit, more than double the $1.6 million from the previous year.

Goessling’s analysis indicates the Vikings could move on from Ingram with just $385,000 in dead cap space, making it a financially feasible decision.

The numbers paint a clear picture: Pro Football Focus rated Ingram at a concerning 54.0 last season, ranking him 100th out of 135 guards. This underperformance, combined with his increased cap hit, leads the Vikings to likely explore other options for the guard position.
