BREAKING NEWS: Phillies Fans just received some much-needed positive news

The Philadelphia Phillies kicked off spring training this week, but not without some early drama.

Starting shortstop Trea Turner has yet to make his spring debut, as he’s been away from the team for personal reasons. As a three-time MLB All-Star and a key piece of the Phillies’ roster, his absence has raised some concerns—especially with the 2025 regular season just over a month away.

However, Phillies fans just received some much-needed positive news.

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman, Trea Turner was present at Wednesday morning’s spring training practice. The 31-year-old shortstop took groundballs with infield coach Bobby Dickerson, signaling that he’s back in action.

Turner’s absence was likely due to a personal milestone—his wife, Kristen, recently gave birth to their third child. Now, after spending some time with his family, the Boynton Beach, FL native is ready to refocus on baseball.

The 2025 season will be Turner’s third with the Phillies since signing an 11-year, $300 million contract in December 2022. While his debut season in Philadelphia had its struggles, he rebounded in 2024 with an impressive performance.

In 121 games (505 at-bats) last year, Turner hit .295 with 21 home runs, 62 RBIs, 19 stolen bases, and 27 walks, posting a .338 on-base percentage and a .469 slugging percentage. His 124 OPS+ was a notable improvement from the previous year (112), reinforcing optimism for continued success.

With the possibility of moving to the leadoff spot, Turner will need to be at his best in 2025. The Phillies, currently tied for the fourth-best World Series odds (+1100) on FanDuel Sportsbook, will rely on him to help push them toward championship contention.
