Late in the first half of Saturday night’s ACC matchup against Miami, Virginia Tech center Mylyjael Poteat suffered a possible knee injury when a Hurricanes player fell into his leg near the defensive basket.
After staying down for a few minutes, Poteat managed to walk off the court and head to the Hokies’ locker room, though he did not return. The ACC Network later reported he was listed as questionable. Fortunately for Virginia Tech, the trio of Ben Burnham, Jaydon Young, and Patrick Wessler stepped up, contributing to the team’s 53 bench points in an 81-68 victory that secured a season sweep of Miami.
After the game, head coach Mike Young provided an update on Poteat, offering a more optimistic outlook than some might have expected.

After Virginia Tech secured its seventh ACC win of the season—and fifth on the road—head coach Mike Young shared an update on Mylyjael Poteat’s injury.
The good news is that Poteat’s injury does not appear to be serious, which is crucial for Virginia Tech as they can’t afford to lose his interior presence for the rest of the season. He contributed six points in the first half against Miami’s Norchad Omier and remains a key part of the Hokies’ frontcourt.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Poteat sits out Tuesday night’s home game against Louisville as Virginia Tech kicks off a three-game homestand, with matchups against Syracuse and North Carolina to follow. The Hokies will wrap up the regular season in two weeks at Clemson before heading into the ACC Tournament, where their win over Miami has strengthened their positioning.
